The world first foldable phone is made official by Flexpai.

The world first foldable phone is made official by Flexpai

So a random startup company out of nowhere launched a foldable smartphone beating Samsung when it comes to unveiling the first foldable smartphone in the world. And it's not a concept phone or anything, it's an actual finished product that they're selling to the public. But when you actually see the device, you'll know that it's an unfinished product which was rushed just to get that title of the world's first.

It's not really innovation if they're just copying someone else and trying to rush it to market first. It looks bad in nearly every aspect and completely unusable as a consumer device. You can see the lag and jitter when apps have to switch to a new screen mode. And Not to mention that the device doesn't seem to be pocketable, which is the whole reason to make foldable devices in the first place. I really don't understand what were they thinking. By the way, Samsung has shown us better looking prototypes of foldable screens for years now.

None of this is new, except for the part where his company is planning to release this to market, again, not because it's a good product but because it gets press. I will be really surprised if they could be able to sell even 100 of these. Anyway, all the foldable prototypes I've seen so far have ridiculous glare, even from straight on. Also the display seems very plasticky when folded out. Just have a look at this smartphone that the surface of the screen how bounces off. That means the surface isn't as smooth so it won't offer a good experience at all when it comes to touch and navigation.

I hope Samsung's implementation isn't like this otherwise it would be a huge problem and will result in a crappy user experience. In any case, even though this product sucks but the proof of concept is here which is what excites me. Sure it's mostly still prototype, but this is the first step towards that dream of having a phone that can be turned into a tablet when you need it to. Or maybe a really small form factor phone that can be turned into something more useful only when needed.

I love this, it's a huge deal even if it doesn't look it just yet. This could have a similar impact, to when we transitioned to touch screens. The first resistive screens sucked, but then we got capacitive, multi-touch and pressure sensitive. This is first gen, but give it a bit of time and who knows what'll happen. That said, let me know your thoughts on this in the comments down below.
